“What is the stars?”

What is the Moon?

By Róisín

The moon is a glowing ball of silver in the ocean.

It is a big silver boat dancing on the water.

It is a silver coin that was dropped from up above.

It is a big silver eye staring down at earth.

It is a silver wheel that dropped off a bike from above.

What are the Stars?

By Lauren

The stars are a black sheet of paper

with holes poked through it

with a big torch behind it.

A black sheet with silver glitter patches all over.

Thousands of euros

thrown at the black sky

at eight o’clock.

4 million silver rings falling in a black hole

and when you look down

it’s all sparkling.

Candles outside when it’s pitch black.

Shining raindrops when it’s raining.

Snowflakes on black paper.

What are Clouds?

By Caélfind

Clouds are big balls of candyfloss

in a big blue candyfloss truck.

The clouds turn purple and pink

because of the food colourings in them.

And at night time

all the candyfloss is gone

and wind man has to get more.

Sometimes the clouds sneak away

and they float away

in Mr. Wind’s breeze,

Candyfloss swims in a pale blue swimming pool.

What is the Moon?

By Anu

The moon is a big white snowball

thrown high, high in the cold midnight sky.

It’s a silver star glistening all night.

The moon is a medal won in a race.

The moon is a ball with a pace.

The moon is a ball painted into the sky.

But to me it is just a light.

What is Earth?

By Robin

Earth is a bouncy ball stuck in a can of violet paint,

Earth is a marble dropped in oil,

Earth is a circle spinning in the sky,

Earth is a round float floating in space,

And it moves like a wheel on a bike.

Earth is a blue round cloud floating in space,

Earth is a plate floating in space,

Earth is a painting in the sky,

Earth is a bottle cap in a puddle,

And Earth is a flower.

What is the Moon?

By Christopher

The moon is a sphere

filled with milk,

Is a white football

floating in space,

Is a blob of white paint

on a black piece of paper

with other smaller dots

surrounding it,

A snowball with little bits

falling away every night,

A bulb in outer space

and it lights up our night.

What is the Sky?

By Ruth

The sky is a painting with cotton wool stuck on with glue,

The sky floats around the world like a big balloon,

The sky is a bird looking for a seed to eat,

The sky is above us to protect us from the darkness of space,

The sky resembles the joy and happiness

we find in the big happy world,

We see the sky when we look up past the clouds, sun, snow and rain.

The sky is happiness!

What are We?

By Emlyn

We are the models

made by earth.

We are the souls

made in birth.

We’re like monkeys,

We’re like chimps.

We’re like creatures

coming from soil.

We’re the ones

that make it good.

We’re the ones

that make the wood.

And we’re the ones

that make the earth.

What is the Moon?

By Sam

The moon is a big baby-bell

laid on a black, wooden table,

It is a white rubber

on a giant piece of black paper,

It is a golf ball hit

too far into the night sky,

The moon is a snowball hit against

a newly painted black wall,

It’s a ball dipped in white paint

and hung on a child’s black wall.

What is the Sun?

By Safia

The sun is a fire shining in your sitting room.

The sun is the colour of Whinnie the Poo.

The sun is cheese in your fridge.

The sun is your wall paper.

The sun is a flower in your back yard.

The sun is your bag sitting on your chair.

What is the Sky?

By Shane

The sky is a blue puddle of thousands of yachts

in different shapes and sizes sailing across.

Many different things fall out of the sky

white, water and leaves.

The sky holds many wonders

we have still to find.

The sky is about 4 kinds of colours

blue, black, orange and pink.

Every day and every night

the sky high above us.

What is the Moon?

By Aoife

The moon is a big cheese ball

that is high up in the sky.

It is a silver coin

that has flown into the air.

It is a white soccer ball

kicked high into the sky.

It is a round, white cushion

that is floating in the air.

The moon is a big ball of snowflakes floating in space.

What is Pluto?

By Elaine

Pluto is a blue bouncy ball,

bounced into space.

Pluto is a blue bottle top,

floating in space.

Pluto is a blue bubblegum ball,

lost in space.

Pluto is a blue plum,

thrown into space.

Pluto is an alien’s head,

kicked into space.

What are the Stars?

By Jessica

Stars are silver polkadots

on black pyjamas.

Stars are fairy dust

sprinkled in the sky.

Stars are lots of eyes

floating around space.

Stars are dabs of silver paint

on black paper.

Stars are lots of torches

in the sky.

What is the Moon?

By Joe

The moon is our night light,

It’s a bowl of milk.

The moon is a snowball,

It’s the rim of a car.

It is a plate.

What is Lightning?

By Niall

Lightning is a man’s frustration

thrown onto the sky,

Lightning is a wooden stick

with lightbulbs all around it,

Lightning is a child’s drawing

of lines,

Lightning is a python’s tongue

put into the sky,

Lightning is ink

thrown onto the clouds.

What is the Sun?

By Thomas

The sun is a golden ball

in the sky

and it floats around the sky,

if you touch it you will die.

Oh my God,

I will die,

the sun is a bright light

in the sky.

What is the Moon?

By Séan

The moon is a lump of silver

in a never ending blackness.

The moon is a mirror

in a pitch black bedroom.

The moon is a cat’s eye

glinting in the light.

The moon is a torch of silver

in a dark cave.

The moon is a T.V. with bad reception

in a room with no lights.

Emlyn’s Puppet Theatre

Emlyn brought in puppets and a book called the Dargon King’s Daughter. He asked boys and girls in the class to help him and they spent two weeks rehearsing their performance. Then they acted out the puppet show for our class as well as Andrea’s class. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

Our Floating Experiments

We had fun in our class testing things in the classroom to see if they would float or sink. First we tried to predict what would happen, then we tested the object and finally we recorded the result.

We made an egg float in a glass half filled with salty water and half filled with dyed water!
