Seachtain na Gaeilge (SnaG:) (Irish language week) There are many SnaG events and activities for the children to look forward to, beginning this Friday: Radió SnaG will broadcast throughout the school at 10.20am daily, Damhsa Gaelach & Céilí Mór (set-dancing,) SnaG assemblies, Trath na gCeist Boird (table quiz,) and Ceolchoirm Beag (mini-concert.) Gorey St. Patrick’s Day parade
Next Monday we will begin practising for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. This year one of the teachers will help us to bang out a Samba beat!
All of the children will need something to bang (biscuit tin & wooden spoon, toy drum or tambourine, baking tray & spoon, etc;) shake (bottle filled with peas or rice, maracas, etc;) or blow (whistles.) Please mark items with the child’s name and bring them to school on Monday. (Please don’t buy anything new.)
If you know a drummer who can join us on the day (and for a practice at the school) - we’d be delighted to hear from you. (Please speak with Fergus - who teaches junior infants - or leave a message with Bernie in the office.)
All are welcome on the day itself: 2.45pm, Wednesday 17th March. We hope to be one of the biggest, loudest and most colourful parade groups again this year. Children and adults can dress up in all the usual (crazy) St. Patrick’s Day garb (or dress to a South American samba theme if you wish!)
Bookings are now being accepted for the 1.30-2.30pm supervision/activity session for Junior and Senior Infants. Staff: Sadie Harpur, Ewa Minias and Pauline Carroll. Cost: €15/week per child (or €3/day.) This service is offered to families who have 1.30pm and 2.30pm pick-ups from Gorey Educate Together NS and families who use the 2.30pm school bus service. Places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Interested families should plan to use the service on a regular basis (between 2 and 5 days per week.) The service will not cater for last-minute or one-off bookings (occasional family situations, ‘I’m running late,’ etc.) To book please speak with Bernie in the office.
PS Pay in advance only. No refund for days the child doesn’t attend because of illness, etc. (The school still needs to pay the staff.)
A few more ‘Free Trees’ from Wexford County Council: the trees would need to be collected from Holmestown Waste Management Facility near Barntown on Monday, 8th March (9am-3.30pm.) If you can collect them for the school please speak with Fergal (learning support teacher) or Bernie in the office.
Multi-denominational school? Child-centred? Democratically run? Co-educational?
Gorey Educate Together is one of three pilot schools in Educate Together’s new ‘Ethos Self-Evaluation Process’
The first step is to establish a coordinating committee (who would meet to plan questionnaires and workshops for the wider school community.)
We need at least two parents to join our coordinating committee (First meeting: 8pm, Monday 15th March.)
Interested? Please contact the office or speak with the principal. (We can also send you further information on what’s involved.)
We will try to ensure balance (parents who’ve been involved with the school for a number of years vs. parents new to the school, etc.
