Thursday April 22nd was ‘Grandparents Day’ in second class.
Lots of grandparents came to visit our classroom for the afternoon. While they enjoyed a cup of tea, we showed them our work, brought them on a tour of our new school and sang them some of our favourite songs. It was a great afternoon!

Bhaineamar an-taitneamh as Seachtain na Gaeilge i mbliana. Bhí spórt agus spraoi againn go léir! Bhí raidió SnaG á chraoladh gach lá. Bhí an-chraic againn ag an céilí mór. Ghlacamar páirt i dtráth na gceist boird. Rinneamar sár-iarracht Gaeilge a labhairt timpeall na scoile.
Míle buíochas leis an chór Gaelach as na hamhráin deasa a chan siad. Buíochas freisin le rang Suzanne as an gceol binn agus an dráma iontach! Bhaineamar sult as an ‘mbodhránaíocht’ - go raibh míle maith agaibh, Elaine agus Edel!

Fergal took us all outside to do some planting. We had great fun and cannot wait to see if they all grow! We planted some seeds in pots and put some into the raised flower beds. The daffodil bulbs are already shooting and will be in flower soon!

One of the best ways to find out about the past is to interview someone who was actually there. And that is exactly what second class did when they wanted to learn more about life in Ireland in the past.
We were so happy to have Isabel’s grandmother Valerie visit our classroom last week. We had prepared some interview questions to ask Valerie about her life as a child. We learned an awful lot! Míle buíochas for your help Valerie!

Rang a dó have been learning more about length in Maths. We spent lots of time measuring things! Some things we measured using our hands and feet. Others we measured using links and cubes. We found that the best way to measure something is to use metres and centimetres! For small things in the classroom we used rulers. When we went outside to measure bigger objects in the courtyard, we needed to use metre-long measuring tapes.

We have been learning about growing and changing. We were very lucky to have some visitors to our class who brought their beautiful babies to meet us. We learned how much we have grown and changed since we were babies! Thanks Jackie and Ewan, Jacinta and Dillon!

During Bookweek, we had visits from authors Sarah Webb, Brianog Brady Dawson (pictured) and Oisin McGann. Some children chose to dress up as their favourite book character during the week and made a character trail through the school. Many thanks to all the families who helped to encourage our children to read more as well as raising funds for MS Ireland through the Readathon and for the school library through the Scholastic bookfair, also the many parents who volunteered to help out with various things to help make the week run more smoothly.
