Volunteers Thanks for the many offers of help-Green Schools Committee, Book Fair, preparing the new building, tree planting, playground mural, end-of-year performances, PTA Winter Fair, etc. The school will be in touch (by text) in due course.
Many thanks to all the parents who helped with last week’s Breakfast Together event.
It looks like we can begin preparing the new buildings one evening next week, plus a few evenings and/or a Saturday during the mid-term break. Again, the school will be in touch as soon as the builder gives us the go-ahead.
Bookings are now being accepted for the new 1.30-2.30pm supervision/activity session for Junior and Senior Infants. Cost: €15/week per child (or €3/day.) This service is offered to families who have 1.30pm and 2.30pm pick-ups from Gorey Educate Together NS. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Interested families should plan to use the service on a regular basis (between 2 and 5 days per week.) The service will not cater for last-minute or one-off bookings (occasional family situations, ‘I’m running late,’ etc.)
To book a place, please submit a €15 deposit to the school office, along with your name, the child’s name and a list of days on which you require the service each week. Expected start date: Monday, 16th November. Further details on the actual format of the session, etc. will issue closer to the 16th – at which point families can either confirm or withdraw their booking.
Safety: Drivers – please drive with extreme caution on the school grounds. Do not stop or park on pedestrian crossings or in other unsafe positions. Pedestrians – please use the footpaths and crossings. Parents – please do not allow the children to climb on walls, the bicycle shelter or the bicycle racks.
Punctuality: Please be punctual. Late arrival in the morning disrupts the work in the classrooms. Late pick-up in the afternoon can upset the child and interrupt the work of the staff.
School Assemblies: We’ve already looked at Class Charters and Skipping Games. The next assemblies will focus on Healthy Lunches and Exercise.
Application Forms: The children in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes who wish to take on certain responsibilities around the school (milk organiser, flag raiser, school council, broadcaster, newsletter editor, art curator, playground minder or gardener) are reminded to return completed application forms to the principal by Wednesday, 14th October.
Time Capsule and Playground Mural: We now have an interesting Time Capsule (thanks Jamie,) and over the next few weeks we will work on nice things to fill it with. The children will also be asked to come up with ideas for our playground mural.
Voluntary Contributions: The Board of Management makes an appeal for Voluntary Contributions during October and March each year. A letter will issue to families within the next few days.
Halloween/Samhain/Harvest: This year, we’re taking a break from any whole-school games, etc. (mainly due to the current lack of space.) The children will learn about Halloween, Samhain and/or the harvest during their Learn Together lessons. (PS The children do not wear Halloween costumes into school.)
Lost and Found: The Lost and Found cupboard outside the staffroom is overflowing! Please label clothing and other belongings. Unlabeled items are seldom reunited with their owners.
